Jason Hashimoto
Jason
was first introduced to photography in his high school darkroom. Watching the photographs slowly develop on paper
fueled his early fascination with the printed image. After attending the University of Western Ontario for Media
Studies, Jason continued to pursue his photographic passion by assisting wedding photographers in the Toronto area
and eventually developing a wedding business of his own. In his personal work Jason photographs the urban environment
around him, finding beauty in the mundane.
“Photography inspires me. It has taught me to be technical, patient, and has provided me with the freedom to capture the world around me. I strive to create beautiful images, a single glimpse of a moment that has come and gone. “

Q&A:
What would be your media of choice (digital or film)?
I made the switch to digital years ago, but from time to time I still shoot some 35mm with my Leica film camera.
What would you consider your first big break in the business?
After finishing University, I took a job working for a fashion boutique company in Bermuda; part of my responsibilities
was shooting some of the ads for newspapers and magazines. When I came back to Ontario I began shooting as an assistant
wedding photographer.
What was your most challenging assignment?
Working as a wedding photographer challenges become part of the game. I think the best thing to do is not panic,
take a deep breath and you will think more clearly. In most cases if you stay collected and calm, things will work
out fine.
What is your funniest photo experience?
I pulled over on the side of a country road to grab a shot of an old barn, but to get to my shot I had to hop the ditch
that was filled with water. Took some photos, but on the way back I missed my return jump and ended up knee high
in some pretty gross water.
What is the most exotic location you've shot in?
The beautiful pink beaches of Bermuda
What was your biggest photo mistake?
When I was first experimenting with off camera flash, I was using a flash sync cord to connect my camera and flash.
As I was shooting a bride, I yanked on the set up and my flash, light stand and umbrella came crashing down. That’s
when I started using PocketWizards to trigger my flashes.
Your idea of the "dream assignment"?
Traveling the world, photographing beautiful scenery and meeting the locals.

Yousuf, Karsh, Peter Lik, Vivian Maier
