
Cylla
immigrated to Canada from Germany in the early 1980’s.
Since then she has developed an impressive body of work both as a visual artist and a sought after photographer working with
well-established clients in all the various disciplines of the Performing Arts.
Cylla's fine art photography is part of many private and corporate art collections. She has exhibited her images both nationally and internationally.
Cylla's photography has been recognized by the National Arts Center through a publication of the book "The Dance Photographs of Cylla von Tiedemann". In recognition of her contribution to dance, she received the 1989 Jacqueline Lemieux Prize given by the Canada Council for the Arts.
Cylla has been a guest lecturer and presented creative workshops at Ryerson University, Sheridan College, La Concordia in Montreal and the Canadian Center for Photography and is now teaching regularly at Pikto Studios in Toronto.
Beyond conventional photography, Cylla has collaborated on numerous multi-media projects for the stage to further
expand her visual creativity both in Canada and internationally.
She also works in video and, besides her many stage videos, has created 2 short films for BravoFact television.
Cylla will launch her series of master classes in movement photography on location in the cities of Berlin and Paris in the summer of 2010.

What would be your media of choice (digital or film)?
Digital because it's the standard in my field of necessary quick turn around.
What would you consider your first big break in the business?
Working for the National Ballet of Canada 1990 and still photographing for them now.
What was your most challenging assignment?
Having only 20 minutes to do a beauty shot for Karen Kain.
What is your funniest photo experience?
Photographing four Nudes rolling in the mud on Cortez island, BC.
What is your creepiest photo shoot?
Shooting for a ghost television show and getting blown cold air down my neck
What is the most exotic location you've shot in?
In a beautiful old temple on Java with 2 dancers in the fog
What was your biggest photo mistake?
Buying the Canon 5D 2 weeks before the 10D came out half price or in the old days of film, forgot to load the camera.
What was your 'dream' assignment?
Travel and dance photography together

Andre Kertecz, Barbara Morgan and Annie Leibovitz
Your top three photo tips:
Keep both eyes open, breathe and smile when shooting
Your advise to aspiring photographers:
Do it your own way, find your own style and show your work as much as possible.
